Before going to AEM, let’s have an idea on CMS

In this post, I would like to introduce Adobe Experience Manager (AEM). But before going to discuss, we should have some basic idea on Content Management System (CMS). Yes, because now days most of the companies are managing their business using different CMS technologies based on their needs. AEM is also kind of web based CMS. Yes, Adobe Experience Manager (AEM) is an enterprise-grade web content management system.

Here is my simple definition of CMS “Maintaining the content in organizational way”. Even definition is so simple, in order to understand the definition of terms Content, Management, System. Let’s talk about ….

What is Content?  Content is any type of digital information. This digital information can be text, images, documents, videos, graphics, sounds, etc… Simply says “Content can be anything that we can stored and managed is in digital nature”.

What is Management?  So, we have to storing the different kinds of information in digital nature and also managing this unmanaged content via some procedures.

What is System? With effective and efficient way of organizing process by set of rules that ensuring managed digital content is delivering to the world.

Ok, we had some idea about Content Management System. Now let me tell you how CMS came into picture…

In old days of the early internet (from 1990’s until around the early 2000s) websites were designed, developed and maintained by a special IT of people who could write code in languages like HTML, CSS and JavaScript etc.…

But in the mid of 2000s, Digital marketing became great importance and many big companies began to focus on their websites and e-commerce with dynamic content. All technologies are grown up around the world. Along with these technologies, web sites and business also upgraded to new technologies.

Developers and web masters, create and maintain the websites, but content is inconsistent like content information needs to be changes often, organize the users and their groups across the domain. So, no one wants to call their IT developer every time, if they need a small change in their website’s content. We need some non-technical persons also. Like Marketers, Authors, designers, and developers each have different needs.

This is the aimed CMSs came into picture to take much of the IT part out of the equation and make it easy for non-technical people to upload content to their websites. With CMS, marketers could store, manage and publish content to their websites without knowing any code or having to ask for help from their resident Web Masters and developers.  Also they may have themes or plugins to extend third party functionality, and make the management of a website and their business simple.

Mostly, CMS are including web-based publishing (publishing the digital content across the web sites) format management.

Here is the list of some other notable CMSs’
